"Genealogy Basics"

When:  Saturday, April 12, 2008:  10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Where:  Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 West Broadway, Frankfort, KY  40601.

This program is designed to teach beginners how to start the process of researching and documenting family history. During the morning program, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., participants will learn proper techniques for basic research. The afternoon program, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., will build upon the lessons from Part I and will present information on resources, repositories, and helpful tips.
Registration before noon on April 11, is required. Workshop participation is compliementary. A light lunch is available for registrants only from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for $6.00, payable at the door. To register, call 502-564-1792, extension 4460 or email Refdesk@ky.gov.

During the morning program, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Kandie Adkinson of the Secretary of State's Land Office, will discuss the components of land patents and the Secretary of State's Land Office website. Emphasis will be placed on selected patent files. During the afternoon session, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Betty Warren will describe the process of plotting and locating patents discussed during the morning session.

Kentucky Technology in Genealogy Users Group

When:  Second Saturday of each month

The Kentucky Technology in Genealogy Users Group (KTIG) has been created to help genealogists keep up with the latest developments in genealogy software, databases, and other technological resources, as well as to provide guidance to members on the use of technology in genealogical pursuits.

KTIG meets monthly at 2:00 p.m. following the close of each KGS/KHS Family History Workshop at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. A different technology-related program is presented at each meeting.
