Printing Tips
With the exception of the Land Office copies of the Grant, documents in the Virginia Patent Series and Old Kentucky Patent Series have been colorscanned. For optimal print quality, we suggest copies be made by color printers.
Search pages for the Virginia Patent Series & Old Kentucky Patent Series result in preview panes for documents in the patent file. To benefit researchers whose computers have slower download speed, preview panes are offered in low, mid, and high resolution. Images may be printed directly from the preview pane, however print quality will be determined by the choice of resolution.
The “Advanced Image Viewer” provides researchers with additional printing options.
• By clicking “Hide All Options” and “Submit”, copies will be branded with the patent series identification and patent file number.
• Using the page numbers included in the preview pane, researchers can select which records they wish to print rather than printing the complete file.
• By experimenting with the “Resize in Browser” option, researchers can adjust the image for easier reading.
• Under “File”, open “Print Preview” and adjust the image size and page count to accommodate original documents printed on paper larger than 8.5” x 11”.
Some researchers prefer to insert their cursor inside an image then click the right button on their computer mouse for file saving options. For example, this option allows the image to be saved in picture format for editing by photo software.
All patent files may be downloaded in multi-page TIFF format.
