The Office of the Secretary of State has embarked upon a number of initiatives to strengthen the future of Kentucky and its citizens.  From exploring new ways to fund higher education for Kentucky students to providing women with an empowerment tool for public service,

Women Serving Kentucky

Opening Doors of Opportunity Cover and link to the report.In 2005, the Office released a report on the status of women in Kentucky entitled Opening Doors of Opportunity: Empowering and Inspiring Kentucky Women to Public Service before a group of young women and female leaders at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville. 

The Office released a 2007 update following the historic 2006 elections in which there were more races on the ballot than at any other time in Kentucky history.  Kentucky saw increases in the number of female elected officials from 2005-2007 particularly among the judiciary.

Recently, the Office released the third edition of this report, the 2009 update.  Kentucky saw significant increases in female elected officials and rose from 49th to 45th in the country for the number of women serving in the legislature.

Diversifying Kentucky Leadership

Cover of 2009 UpdateFollowing upon the successful report of women who are serving the Commonwealth, the Office released one of the first comprehensive reports on diveristy in Kentucky leadership: United We Stand: Encouraging Diversity in Kentucky's Leaders. 

On the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday and as part of the MLK Season of Service 2008, the Office released an update to the original report.

Recently, the Office released the third edition of this report, the 2009 update., as part of the 2009 Civics Month celebration.
