Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced today the launch of a new online service for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Interested parties can now access portions of the Governor’s Executive Journal online.

“I am very excited to announce the launch of this service for citizens of the Commonwealth,” stated Secretary of State Trey Grayson.  “Citizens now have access to the current actions taken by their elected leaders.  The launch of this service online is simply another way to bring government to the finger-tips of Kentuckians.”

Under provisions of Section 91 of the Kentucky constitution, the Secretary of State is required to keep a register of official acts of the Governor.  The online portion of the Executive Journal contains entries of official acts of the Governor including appointments, proclamations, and reorganizations.

The online database includes acts dating back to the start of the Fletcher administration in early December of last year.  Information from other Governor’s Executive Journals are also available, although not online.  The Executive Journals for 1792 to 1927 are housed with the Department of Library and Archives. The Executive Journals from 1927 to the present are kept in the Secretary of State's Office.

Grayson continued, “In addition to making our Government more accessible to the citizens in our fast-paced, 24-hour society, this effort also serves as a form of preservation of the Commonwealth’s historical documents.  I am extremely proud to be a part of this effort.”

Secretary Grayson already announced additional online services since he took office.  Final copies of enacted legislation of the Commonwealth were made available online in February and in June, the Office launched online access to Revolutionary War Patents.
