Many Filing Forms Available Online for the First Time

            (Frankfort, KY)  Secretary of State Trey Grayson launched a new online service, today, to assist candidates who are interested in filing to run for public office.  FastTrack Elections, as the new service is known, allows potential candidates to find forms online through an intuitive application that provides the appropriate filing forms after the user answers a series of questions. 

            “With many candidates looking to run for political office this year, our office wanted to do all that we could to make sure the candidates have access to filing forms but with enough information to ensure that they are getting the proper forms for the office for which they intend to run,” said Secretary Grayson.  “Our hope is that FastTrack Elections will reduce the bureaucratic red tape that candidates can encounter when they try to seek an elected office.”

            For the first time, citizens who are interested in running for an office that files with the Secretary of State will be able to obtain the proper filing papers online, twenty-four hours a day.  These forms can be printed out and submitted either by hand delivery or by mail.  The forms will have detailed instructions to help the candidate fill out the forms properly.  The application will also provide sample forms for offices that file with the county clerk. 

            The new site works for candidates who plan to file as democrats, republicans, independents, members of a political group or organization, and non-partisans. It will also provide forms for candidates seeking to file as write-in candidates.  

            “FastTrack Elections is just another way that our office is making government services more accessible to citizens.  I am proud that we can bring online this new application at no additional cost to the taxpayer,” remarked Grayson.

            The candidate filing period for candidates begins on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 and will conclude for most candidates at 4:00 p.m. on January 26, 2010.
