FRANKFORT -- Today, Secretary of State Elaine Walker announced the top priorities of the Secretary of State’s office.  Chief among these was that the office serve the citizens of Kentucky with the utmost integrity, foster economic development and protect the election process.

As Secretary of State, Walker stated it is important to increase the office’s role in fostering economic development in the state.  Walker emphasized stream-lining the business licensing process by re-developing the “Fast Track” program and expanding it to a full service “One Stop” business portal. The Secretary hopes to have the support of the legislature and other state agencies to ensure the process is efficient for all businesses in Kentucky.

Walker believes “The Secretary of State’s office is one of the first places for new businesses developing in Kentucky, over the next several months the office will take a more active approach to assisting business development.  I look forward to the opportunity to working with the economic development community to create jobs for Kentuckians.”

Walker cited her years of experience as the Mayor of Kentucky’s third largest city, Bowling Green as proof she is able to reach across party lines to bring people together and serve her community.  Under Walker’s tenure Bowling Green was able to weather the economic downturn and add 5,000 new jobs.

Walker stated “as a small business owner and a former Mayor, I understand what it takes to create jobs in this state, we need to roll up our sleeves, put partisan bickering aside and get this legislation passed to allow small businesses in the state to prosper and make it easier to attract new businesses to Kentucky.”

Additionally, Walker praised the work of the Secretary’s office in making sure voters are protected and pledged to work closely with the State Board of Elections and County Clerks’ offices across the state to streamline the election protection process.
