Secretary Grimes Announces Special Election for State Representative, 2nd District
Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s Secretary of State and Chief Election Official, announced today that a special election will be held on November 6, 2012, to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives, 2nd Representative District. The 2nd Representative District is comprised of Graves County and part of McCracken County.
The Hon. Fred Nesler, former Representative for the 2nd District, resigned effective May 31, 2012, vacating the remainder of his term. On June 19, 2012, pursuant to KRS 118.730, Governor Steve Beshear issued and Grimes certified a writ calling for an election to fill the vacancy.
The deadline for Republican and Democratic candidates nominated by their party and independent candidates to file their petitions with the Secretary of State is Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 4:00 p.m., EST.
The special election does not affect or alter the deadlines applicable to the November 6, 2012, regular election to select a Representative from the 2nd District for the new term beginning January 1, 2013.
