Secretary Grimes Participates in and Encourages National Voter Registration Day Activities
September 25, 2012, is National Voter Registration Day, and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is reminding all Kentuckians to take the necessary steps to ensure their voices are heard in the November 6, 2012, General Election.
“Kentucky is at its best when all citizens are engaged,” said Grimes. “With two weeks left to register to vote in the November 6th election, I urge all eligible voters to make sure they are registered and that their information is up to date so there are no obstacles to casting their ballots.”
Across the Commonwealth, schools and civic organizations are commemorating National Voter Registration Day by conducting voter registration drives to maximize participation in the upcoming election. In addition to encouraging and supporting all voter registration efforts, Grimes is helping with the registration drive at Woodford County High School in Versailles, where she is talking to students about the importance of being engaged in the democratic process.
“Voting is the cornerstone of our democratic society,” said Grimes. “Many important decisions for our communities, state and nation will be made on November 6th, and I hope all eligible Kentuckians will be part of the process so we can ensure our brightest days are ahead.”
The deadline to register to vote in the November 6, 2012, General Election is October 9, 2012. County clerks’ offices will accept voter registration cards until close of business on that date, and mail-in voter registration applications must be postmarked by that date.
Voters who have recently moved must update their registration information by October 9th. Pursuant to KRS 116.025(6), individuals who move from one county to another county while the voter registration books are open and fail to update their registration information before the registration books close will not be permitted to vote in the election.
You can access the Voter Information Center, check your registration status and obtain a registration card through the Secretary of State’s website, www.sos.ky.gov, or through links on the Secretary of State’s Facebook page.
