Office of Business

The Office of Business is responsible for all functions of the department relating to business filings, including business entity filings and filings under the Uniform Commercial Code, business records, and trademarks and service mark registration.

The office of business administers the incorporation of businesses, both domestic and foreign, profit and nonprofit, as well as mergers, dissolutions, name changes and certain stock matters. The office is entrusted with filing, maintaining and preserving certain historically significant documents and public records of the Commonwealth, including organizational documents for nearly 200,000 entities doing business in Kentucky and trademarks and service marks.

The office also issues certificates of existence and authorization, certified copies of original documents on file with the Secretary of State and apostilles and appoints notaries public.
